Spotlight: Automate CNC Turning Centers  

Feedall recently manufactured two Model 2500 feeders. Both projects fed blanks from a random loaded, floor mounted hopper and elevated them with a 12″ wide cleated belt. The blanks were oriented with face select orientation, in a continuous, diameter to diameter stream to an air operated escapement device. The parts were then released one part at a time to the customers’ loading devices.

The first unit, a Model 2500-C, fed Forged Gear Blanks onto a horizontal conveyor with the hub down for a gantry pick off by the customer’s OKUMA Dual Spindle CNC Lathe. For photos, floor plans and additional details click SO#18052.

The second unit, a Model 2500-D, fed Forged Pinion Blanks with the axis vertical into the customer’s loading device on a MURATA Model MW50 CNC Turning Center. For photos, floor plans and additional details click SO#18911.

Forging Solutions

Feedall produces a wide variety of billet feeders to meet the forging industry’s needs. These models can feed billets with 4″-6″ diameter and up to 30″ in length with minimal part recirculation.  

Feedall has manually loaded units designed with easy access doors at ergonomic load heights.  Our auto- and random loaded feeders can be paired with a drop bottom tub, hydraulic tub dumper or a roll over dumper to eliminate the heavy lifting.

Spotlight: Feed an Induction Heater/Forging Press  

Feedall recently completed a project designed to feed an Inter-Power Induction Heater.  The unit fed sheared steel bars between 8″ – 18″ long.  The parts were fed from a random loaded, floor mounted hopper.  Once loaded, the bars were elevated from the hopper via a cleated belt and deposited onto a rear mounted accumulation ramp.  An air operated escapement device then loaded one part at a time into a pusher device (customer supplied) feeding the induction heater.

Project Spotlight: Feeding a Centerless
Grinder
 
Conveyors

Feedall recently designed and manufactured a three (3) conveyor system to mate with a centerless grinder line.

The project conveyed steering racks from a manually loaded tray to the workrest of a centerless grinder.  The system included three (3) Feedall 1650 conveyors; including entrance and exit style conveyors for input and output of the centerless grinder.  Features included quick adjusting guide rails that require no tools for part diameter changes, removable side plates for easy internal part replacement, a variable frequency drive, a load ramp featuring an automatic air operated escapement device, an air operated pinch wheel to aid the parts over the workrest into the grinding wheels and floor stands.  The parts were fed with a belt speed range of 1 to 50 feet per minute.

Manual Load Billet Feeder

Billets are elevated from the hopper via a cleated belt, carried over the top of the elevator and accumulated in a continuous, diameter-to-diameter stream. An air-operated escapement discharges one billet at a time into an air-operated pusher feeding an induction heater.

Dual Lane Orienting Conveyor.

Steel sleeves are accepted from customer’s manually loaded totes at random onto a Bi-Directional Conveyor. Tubes merge from the in-feed (load) lane onto the orienting lane conveyor and discharge in a continuous, end-to-end stream to the work rest of a Centerless Grinder.

12″ to 20″ tubes are hand stacked, bundle loaded or with modifications to the hopper loaded from a conveyor from a previous operation. This type of feeder is very suitable for non-mar applications when parts are finished or in a pre-heat treated state. Noise levels are very low due to zero recirculation of parts.

BI-DIRECTIONAL ORIENTING CONVEYOR#922 End Finisher integrated with our FEEDALL Model 1500 feeder.  Steel tubes are fed from customer’s bins at random onto a bi-directional feed conveyor. Tubes merge from the load lane onto the orienting land conveyor in an end-to-end stream. Tubes are then transferred one at a time to a customer-supplied input chute 50″ from the floor.     Evaluation
    If your existing unit is not performing as well as it should, a service call may be required. This will allow our staff to inspect the unit and provide recommendations on spare parts and other maintenance issues. These visits are offered at a discounted rate when parts are purchased as a result of the trip.

     

    Rebuild
    Older units can be evaluated and updated with new components. A fresh coat of paint can make your old feeder seem like new.

     

    Retool
    New tooling can be designed for existing units. If you have a new part you wish to feed just supply us a sample. Our engineers will evaluate your current equipment and design new tooling to accommodate your request

    Replacement Parts
    Provide your feeder’s serial number and the parts you require and in most cases we will complete a quote within two business days. If you are unable to identify what replacement parts you need we can provide you with a new maintenance manual for a nominal fee.

    FEEDALL INNOVATION AT WORK
     

    Forging Customer with Vibratory Bowl Feeder problems:
    • Shrinking profits and reduction in new business due line down time causing higher direct labor costs. 
    • Environmentally unfriendly due to noise.
    • Ergonomic issues due to height and frequency needed to work on
    • Overall high maintenance costs and downtime due to resurfacing and retooling bowls every 3-4 months made them non-competitive. 
    • Higher direct labor costs to produce parts due to overtime wages that were now required to meet deliveries.
    Feedall’s Solution:   
    • Determined that the downtime was caused by dumping the 6000# load onto the bowls directly basically beating them to death. 
    • Supplied a metering type hopper BUILT to withstand the dump and take the abuse instead of the feeder. 
    • Eliminated violence on feeder and subsequent down time. 
    • Feedall feeders are designed w/hardened steel cleats and wear areas to increase life and do not require resurfacing.  
    • Customer was supplied a vertical style chain driven BILLET FEEDER which utilizes cleats not vibration to orient parts, thus reducing noise dramatically.  
    • Ergonomics was solved because the Model 4800 is floor mounted and designed to elevate parts to desired heights.  Hopper and load area is 3-5 feet above floor.
